ABOUT HELEN

Helen's current work and studies surround not horses, but dogs! She is a dog trainer and behaviour consultant, based in Gloucestershire, who is currently nearing the end of her Level 6 qualification with the Dogenius Institute.  So why IEP?  Well, Helen's first love is horses, but having previously worked in a number of yards and ridden in a riding school context, she was never comfortable with the ethos that she was surrounded by.  Dismounting early from her last ride 5 years ago, Helen concluded that the horse she was on was not, in fact, being lazy or stubborn as suggested by the instructor, but likely had pain or discomfort.  It was then that she distanced herself, in search of like-minded people who prefer to listen to equines and truly understand them, rather than routinely applying force, fear and incorrect labels.

For her Level 6 Canine Behaviour Dissertation, Helen plans to compare canine and equine welfare as she recognises that there are some stark contrasts and aims to explore and highlight these.  She has undertaken various equine CPD courses and looks forward to attending Understand Horses Live later this year with Trudi Dempsey and Justine Harrison.  We are delighted to welcome Helen as  Student Member of IEP.

It is Helen's dream to become an ABTC certified CAB (clinical animal behaviourist) and via further studies, to be able to add equine behaviour to this mantle also.

Helen is for ever in search of like-minded equestrians or equine professionals in the Gloucestershire area.
